Unfortunately, I have not been able to get my hands on one of the Pi5’s, as they are still quite hard to get in the US. I have a couple on “preorder / backorder”, so while I am carefully following along this thread, I am playing the waiting game until mine arrives and I can start playing around.

So in the meantime @puffettacicciottella, I do also appreciate your efforts here. Thank you!

Done! 😍 😍 😍 😍

You can’t imagine how much I’m appreciating your suggestion … I’ve done a fresh installation of Budgie-raspi-23.10, accessed it from Ctrl-Alt-F5 terminal, installed raspi-config from mantic - universe (gldriver pretended it) then [dpkg -i]-ed (sorry for new verb 😄) gldriver-test\_0.15\_all.deb previously downloaded, rebooted and …

So thanks, thanks and thanks again! 💏 💏 💏

superb!

If you haven’t already done so - please add your findings to the bug report - this will allow Canonical a better view of how to resolve this.

Cheers 🙂

Hi all,

Was lucky to get in the lane early enough… I received my Pi5 last week 🕶

Tried to install Budgie 23.10 (like on my Pi4). Used Raspberry Pi installer and prepared my SD card.
On first boot, the installation is OK:

-I’m asked to choose language, keyboard, locales, connect to Wifi, create user.

When all this is done, it starts dl updates and removing a lot of stuff (I suppose it’s normal depending on my config and choices…).

Then it starts getting complicated when it reboots (by itself). Black screen with an error message (see pic).

Not really sure where I should look or what to try but ready to test if anyone has an idea 🙂

Thanks for your time and help.

Hi and welcome - did you try what @puffettacicciottella suggested here? [Raspberry Pi5 and Jammy - #23 by puffettacicciottella](https://discourse.ubuntubudgie.org/t/raspberry-pi5-and-jammy/6944/23)

Hello fossfreedom,

Thanks for your welcome. No, haven’t tried it yet since I wasn’t sure it was the same bug… Will try it this afternoon but what would you recommend?

Ubuntu standard
Budgie-desktop-environment
Sddm

Then switch to term and install gldriver-test (.deb package copied to USB or dl depending on what I have access to) and see what I get?

Thanks for your help and time.

Project team member Sam will not get his Pi5 until Jan at the earliest - so the only knowledge I have is the excellent findings made by community member @puffettacicciottella above.

So - yeah - looks like switching to a TTY terminal and installing the raspi-config package from the ubuntu repos + gldriver-test from debian via a USB stick should hopefully work for you.

The issue raised by @puffettacicciottella on launchpad is at least on Canonical’s radar. No resolution so far but cross-fingers should be resolved at least by 24.04.

Hey all,

OK, did my homework:

- preoared my SD card with budgie-raspi, booted and configured locales, network, user,…

- rebooted and got the error message.

-switched to tty5 with CTRL+ALT+5, logged in, updated,

- added universe with add-apt-repository -c universe, installed raspi-config

- installed gldriver from USB stick like described above, rebooted

and it worked the same as @puffettacicciottella !!

Still have some issues (trying to add bluetooth headset logs me out…) but was able to start testing.

Sure that it’ll get better if we are patient 🙂

Thanks all for your help.

Are these workarounds still required?
