Thunderbird XML Parsing Error: undefined entity

This is since upgrading to 20.10. Thunderbird won’t start because of the error below. Possibly better to post on their site, but you have to sign up to that.

Thunderbird is maintained by Canonical. So please report that to launchpad

ubuntu-bug thunderbird

Thx.

I did that from a terminal: $ubuntu-bug thunderbird it’s Bug #1901886
I imagine it would have been reported automatically if I hadn’t got apport disabled. In the past I have found it to be very irritating because it frequently interrupted me with reports which didn’t seem to relate to anything I was doing. Might have been important for someone else of course.

There is a bodge (which works for me) in the Launchpad bug report #1901886, in a terminal type:

find ~/.thunderbird -name langpack*@thunderbird.mozilla.org.xpi -exec rm {} ;

Then if thunderbird isn’t localized in your preferred language, install the corresponding Ubuntu package named thunderbird-locale-$LANGCODE.

No doubt a proper fix will be issued soon.
