Very long boot time

scratching my head…

And you have run since changing the mirror?

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

lol

spotted it

typo “linux-generic” not “iinux-generic”

Yep LOL
I can deal with a reinstall… Don’t want you to take all your day on that. I am a former IT but a linux noobie

JF

so what happens if you run?

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
sudo apt install --reinstall linux-generic linux-image-generic

I don’t get it either but now :

jeff@desktop-office:~$ sudo apt install --reinstall linux-generic linux-image-generic

Linux desktop-office 4.15.0-33-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Wed Aug 15 16:00:05 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and my pc booted within seconds !!!

THANKS so much !!! Not sure at which step we fixed it but tks !!!

Curious as I am I went through the topics list and thought I check out the boot time on my Dell laptop doing :

systemd-analyze blame

I get this error message:

Bootup is not yet finished (org.freedesktop.systemd1.Manager.FinishTimestampMonotonic=0).
Please try again later.

This, even though my computer is active for over an hour.

 systemctl list-jobs

returns :
