I’ll be honest - that mockup is cramped - its a downgrade from the current.
Any good drawing app is good enough for me.
entirely your decision
This looks great and I love the option for big icons or to have a list.
While I know it’s most likely not possible for the first iteration, but having a power/reset/logout/reboot options in a strip either at the bottom or top would be amazing.
Great stuff @fossfreedom!
Alright, here’s a mockup of how the grid layout could look like with a power strip:

Working on the other one rn.
Made in Draw.io
Also:

Please note neither of them have the search bar…
It should though, that shouldn’t be anything hard.
Yay, FINALLY, the power strip!
And it follows my mockup too
Suggestion - what about moving the power strip down below the page (dot) indicators? it “feels” a little crammed up to the right of the search field.
I would add a separator line below the dot indicators and them add the strip right aligned.
If you are concerned about vertical spacing, then the current location is likely the best option. My suggestion to put it at the bottom was just kind of based on where I would expect it to be. Based on other paradigms in various operating systems. All good either way.
Here’s an idea: no powerstrip at all in the menu, we have those buttons already on a good place. No matter where you put them in the menu, they don’fit in an organic way.
true true - its not visible by default BTW. Its an option to turn on via budgie desktop settings.
I do agree that having the option to show or hide them is a good one. Because you do not need both. I always expect them to be on the menu. It was something that I had to break out of in my thought process with the default configuration. But again, that’s coming down to preferences. So I would say that if someone can enable and disable it in the menu… It’s relatively easy to remove the button from the panel if a person doesn’t want both.
Totally agree … I like to have the option …
Would it also be a good/ viable idea to an option for the spacing of the grid, so one can increase or reduce the distance between the icons?
No. I will not be complicating the implementation with yet another option in this area (EDIT if you are referring to moving the powerstrip around the bazaars)
As to the spacing of the grid. As I explained above I am waiting to see if two pull requests upstream land and how they affect matters first.
No, i think he means an option to choose how far spread apart the app launchers/icons in the “Grid” view
ok - with today’s update is the potential for breakages.
Key to this update is drag and drop support - so should be able to drag/drop onto the desktop/plank/icon-task-list
Also merged was lots of backend stuff from upstream that caused a rework of grid sizing and power strip display capabilities.
All in all - needs careful testing.
can drag to desktop but not to icon task list. when trying to drag icon down (of archive manager in this case) the icon freezes while in the middle and doesn’t move.
cannot test plank
Dragging from the menu on to both the icon task list (panel) and Plank works fine here, 19.10.
