Running under virtualbox, could not get a TTY session started, none of the function keys worked.

What settings have you defined for your VM. Suggest 128Mb RAM, 3D acceleration to use you hosts graphics. Check also if changing the virtual graphics driver makes a difference.
In virtualbox, a tty switch is something like alt-gr plus a number
OK, the problem is that I was using the VBoxSVGA graphics controller not the VMSVGA controller. And, 3D acceleration is not selectable using VBoxSVGA.

On my laptop if I enter Ctl+Fun+Alt+F4 I bring up a TTY session. However, in Virtualbox even in full screen, if I do this it drops me into a TTY session for Ubuntu Budgie not the VM
Still have the installer blues with Ubuntu and Ubuntu Budgie. I have installed Ubuntu Unity and Kubuntu successfully.
Launchpad bug number?
I’ll get going on that ASAP I have new daily , but am on the Windows drive ATM. My last attempt was last week. The installer goes black when the password is entered.
For ubuntu and ubuntu budgie (and soon ubuntu studio) the devs need the contents of /var/log/installer
Bugs should be against subiquity.
I imagine by the close of 24.04 dev cycle all installer bugs will be against subiquity since ubiquity will have been retired.
I did not have permission to compress the var/log/installer folder so only uploaded part. So I guess I,m out for this cycle. I cant install 23.10 and upgrade the sources list either. Same problem. Odd because I tested 23.10 the entire cycle and removed after.I don’'t know what to do except add my name to the bug you linked when I first had this problem. Made many installation attempts to install this cycle.

Sorry if the report was not correct. Tried to take a screen-shot in V-Box and the installer crashed so thought I would try to install from safe graphics mode and the installation is proceeding. I hope that offers a clue about what may have happened and help others

What are your virtualbox settings - 128Mb virtual ram, 3D host graphics and VMSVGA graphics driver should be your values for Ubuntu/Ubuntu Budgie
I always use maximum graphics and 8 Gb of memory in V-Box. I also throw away old machine folders and restart V-Box when installing.
Managed to recreate the crash and upload the log files per request of Dan Bungert for the incomplete report.
tried right now: with newest iso, still getting black screen. Bug Bug #2043915 “Booting into live session results in try/install p...” : Bugs : ubuntu-desktop-installer seems to be still alive, anyway
virtualbox or real hardware?
in this last case, qemu. I’m a bit afraid to test it on real hw, but maybe I’ll find out a sacrifiable laptop and give a try. I’ll let you know
OK, done: I’ve tried to install noble (standard, now I’ll try with legacy) on a real pc: a laptop that I use for tests and similar things, provided by an intel i5 and 16 Gb ram.
1st trial with Dec 06 iso: installation started w/o problems, then failed (can’t attach here /var/log/installer files: I’ve tar-gzipped theb because they’re a lot but I’m not authorized to upload them and doing it file per file is a long and messy thing)
2nd trial with today iso: blank installation screen and none installation at all
thx for the update. Nothing will happen now until after the new year - Canonical employees are now on christmas hols.
I’m waiting for thursday, dec 21, for that … still 3 working days!

I am currently running the Live CD, so I am doing this on the fly. You’ll have to please excuse me sharing this minor bug here. It was either here or nowhere. But the installer cannot run and has not for the past few daily’s.
