2nd Hard Disk "For dummies" ( USB or SSD) Bootable and writable

on MacOS or Windows, when we install a 2nd hard disk, it’s always handled easily / user friendly.

On Ubuntu, I always endup googling on how to do it LOL as I don’t do it often.

What is the easiest and right way of making Ubuntu / linux 2nd SSD or USB drive " mountable and be writable"

Just installed a SSD drive, I can write on it after typing come " commands " but I am not sure I am doing it right.
