Hello,
I’ve got Budgie 24.10 installed.
I have an Nvidia 3070 graphics card, with 560 drivers installed.
I’m not getting the app center to work with these drivers. This is shown on my video: https://youtu.be/7Tzrd8JxXNs?si=HfhVFd-ZNPcbx5XW You can skip to 23:30 to see the result.
In summary: I’m presented with a black frame with text saying “Unable to create a GL context”
Attempted remedies:
- downgrade to generic “Novaeu” drivers. Successful, but not suitable for games.
- Downgrade to 535 Drivers. I’m met with a black screen (monitor off to sleep) during normal boot. I had to revert to 560.
- Upgrade to 565 Drivers. I was asked to enter MOC password prior to reboot, but was never prompted for it during the reboot. I’m met with a black screen with flashing cursor in top left corner after login. Reverted to 560.
Workaround was the terminal sudo apt install, and sudo snap install commands.
It’s not the reason to kill budgie, but I briefly moved to Fedora, and then promptly moved back when it turned the 565 Nvidia driver upgrade into a black hole with no escape other than a format drive and reinstall.
So, as you can guess. I’m newish to Linux and I’m not panicked by black screens, but they do raise my anxiety coefficient to “format and reinstall” levels if a simple google search yields a “if you get a black screen, type xyz into command prompt”, to which my instant reaction is “what command prompt, it’s a black screen!”
