Budgie Desktop Lagging After Latest Update – Any Tips?

Hey everyone,

I have been using Ubuntu Budgie for over a year now and really love the clean and responsive feel of the Budgie desktop. However…, after applying the latest system updates (as of mid-June 2025), I’ve started noticing some lag — especially when switching workspaces or opening the Raven menu.

I’m running it on a Dell XPS 13 (Intel i7, 16GB RAM, integrated graphics), so hardware shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve already tried rebooting, checking for any running background processes, and even switched between X11 and Wayland to test.

Has anyone else experienced performance drops recently? Could this be related to Mutter or Budgie 10.8 changes? Would love to hear if there’s a tweak or config change I might’ve missed. What version of ubuntu are you using? Budgie 10.8 was about 23.04/23.10 which are end of support.

24.04 uses budgie 10.9 and magpie not mutter. They havent had any updates recently. So what you are describing is more ubuntu stack issues such as the kernel/xserver/intel graphics drivers
