Budgie Freezing issue

Hello,

I have Budgie 25.10 in a iMac from year 2013
Linux 6.17.0-6-generic x86_64
Intel Core i5-4570 CPU
Graphics: NVE7

Almost every time I use Budgie, it freezes after some time of use and the screen goes messed up. I try to upload a picture. (now it says “Sorry, but your upload failed”)

Normally I use Chromium, Firefox and Gramps genealogy program (https://gramps-project.org).

Could the reason be in Budgie, graphics card or some of the programs? It could be Gramps, because it mostly happens when Gramps is started. Gramps 6.0.6-4 snap is downloaded from Ubuntu AppCenter.

Doe anyone know a fix?

That’s and nvidia graphics chipset, correct?

Are you offered to activate an nvidia driver in menu - additional drivers / additional hardware?

No additional drivers offered in the Software & Updates.

Erkki - from the screenshot it very much looks like a graphics issue that is causing your issues.

From your observation about the lack of an offered Nvidia driver your hardware has dropped off the Nvidia support for the kernel version in 25.10. You are reliant on the opensource nouveau drivers.

This might be solvable by the wider Ubuntu community via discourse.ubuntu.com & askubuntu.com - it isn’t a UB specific issue. Just be aware - you might be told that you’ll need to go backwards - to 24.04 and remove the HWE kernel so that the oldest Nvidia kernel would then be offered to you to activate.

Thanks for advice. I’ll try these.

It has not freezed for many days. There has come some updates. Maybe it is fixed.
