After updates of Ubuntu Calibre doesn´t start anymore.
If I start calibre from the terminal, following message is displayed.
I installed Calibre from the official website.
After reinstalling the problem still exists.

Have a look for a calibre config file either in ~/.config or ~/.local/share
Rename it and restart calibre.
I have completely removed calibre , also in .config and .local/share but that dit not help.
Also on a completely fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04.1 , i got the same message.
I also fresh installed Ubuntu 24.04.1 on another computer, but the same message.
Calibre will not start.
Why are you not using the package in the repositories? https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calibre
i.e. sudo apt install calibre
Hi, I’m not using the package from the repositories, because on the website of calibre it is recommended to use the package from the website.
right - so its an issue calibre need to resolve with their package. Suggest ask via their forum.
For an easy life just use the package in the repo - or if there is a flatpak/snap use that instead.
I agree with @fossfreedom, but you’ve made me want to try installing Calibre from the site on UB 24.04.01 (in /opt directory), just to see.
The recommended dependencies are already installed (xdg-utils, wget, xz-utils, python), but libxcb-cursor0 is missing:
sudo apt install libxcb-cursor0 && sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin install_dir=/opt
Everything looks OK…
Thanks a lot, it works now.
