Hello budgies of the year 2025,
The new year just started, and according to this meeting report, some of the budgies of Ubuntu have been laborious during the winter holidays!
As you probably guessed from the title, there is a new entry in the edge version of the Ubuntu Budgie Welcome snap: Email ballot!
There are a few reasons why the Ubuntu Budgie team decided to work on Email ballot: First, it simplifies email client installation; at the same time, it provides options for those that want to check some of the popular Linux email clients. Finally, it keeps the download ISO file to a decent size, making it easier to download and fit in our userβs preferred installation media.
Call for testing
Email Ballot is currently on the edge channel of the ubuntu-budgie-welcome snap, and we would like to encourage everyone to help us test it. If you are interested, and you want to help out, please check the instructions below to update your Budgie Welcome app:
Update ubuntu-budgie-welcome snap to edge channel
sudo snap refresh ubuntu-budgie-welcome --channel=edge

Revert ubuntu-budgie-welcome snap to stable channel
If you are experiencing issues, or you donβt want to live on the edge, you can always revert to the stable channel of ubuntu-budgie-welcome snap.
sudo snap refresh ubuntu-budgie-welcome --channel=stable
