Cannot install from software updater

This has been happening for months for me but I did not have the time to report it. Attached is a video link to see what is happening.

I’m still on 19.04 as I did not get any notification for update.

what’s the output of the following from the terminal?:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Seems it is updating once I ran that, before I was running sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade I thought it was the same but I guess not.

Now I have another issue, the upgrade to 19.10 button does not do anything, is there also something I can do from the command line?

Don’t forget to reboot before opening up the software update window again.

I just rebooted pressed upgrade, window closed and nothing happened.

if you run update-manager from a terminal any output?

hmm - something from those PPA’s has fiddled with dbus.

Suggestion - do make sure you have a full disk image backup handy just in-case things go bang.

Switch to a TTY i.e. CTRL+ALT+F3 and login via the text screen.

Then type:

do-release-upgrade

That should run the release upgrade process.

Same thing happens, it says

Please install all available updates for your release before upgrading.

run:

sudo apt dist-upgrade

That should force those extra updates to be installed.

I removed the 2 packages that it wouldnt upgrade, and now it worked. Thanks.
