Weirdest thing. I made a QEMU/KVM machine (on Ubuntu 19.04) with UbuntuBudgie 19.04 on the default QXL driver and it boots into a blank screen (even on the boot menu, if that’s shown), with close to 100% CPU in the VM. I think it actually boots, because it responds promptly to the shutdown command from KVM. Anyways, I can switch the display driver from QXL to VMVGA and get a functioning screen, which I can set the resolution to what I want (1920x1080 in the VM) but on boot it’s always resetting to 800x600.
Below is the XML used to define the virtual machine in KVM (“virsh dumpxml ub1904”), and the only difference is now I’ve changed it from QXL to VMVGA to use the VMWARE driver. I tried VGA and Virtio but they didn’t allow the resolutions I wanted. Anyone have any idea what the display driver should be set to in order to work properly under QEMU/KVM? Thanks. Maybe I shouldn’t use the Q35 BIOS but the older i440FX one?
