When I updated from 23.10 to 24.04, it didn’t update the kernel from 6.5 and I used to mainline kernel GUI to upgrade the kernel to the latest kernel, then when I rebooted the system, no image showed on my screen.
I don’t know why the original 6.5 kernel didn’t upgrade. That is a bug and you should report that on launchpad together with the upgrade log apt - Can I look at the upgrade log after a distribution upgrade? - Ask Ubuntu
I’m not surprised that you have issues with the mainline kernel - it is vanilla without the Canonical kernel “sauce” that is tailored.
The package to install the correct kernel for 24.04 is linux-image-generic-hwe-24.04
