Budgie Screenshot Limitations

So, I often need to take a lot of screenshots of my desktop quickly and share them elsewhere for troubleshooting or guidance, whatever. I’ve been using Budgie Screenshot, and so far it works but I wish it would work a bit better and I was curious, if the things I want it to do are possible.

  1. Make Budgie Screenshot copy an image I’ve taken to my clipboard automatically without having a window pop-up every single time to ask if I want to do that. I’d rather a notification come up, and if i want to do something different with the image, I could open the window through that notification.
  2. Allow Budgie Screenshot to activate in fullscreen applications, and take pictures of system windows. For example, I wanted to take a picture of the settings I am offered when I right click on my Desktop, but I literally cannot do so. Or I wanted to take a screenshot of a game, but couldn’t (I use region capture I forgot to mention) without tabbing out of the game entirely… which in turn I can’t get a screenshot lol.

Are either of these possible to make the program do, or am I better off just finding an alternative altogether? I was using GPU Screen Recorder which I like a lot, but was having issues with the auto-copying of images I take, I believe to a Flatpak limitation, not 100% certain.

I managed to get GPU Screen Recorder to work in this way. Considering I haven’t received any responses (yet), nor do I see any settings available. I will assume that Budgie Screenshot just isn’t capable of these things (yet).

You’re probably right (for now), @Laarikin.

Regarding point #1, I could have told you that I know of a distribution that offers this feature, but I censored myself. :face_with_medical_mask:

As for point #2, the problem seems to me to be related to editing the desktop settings rather than Budgie Screenshot.
But there is a workaround that allows you to do what you want, even with “Area” mode:

You need to launch “Budgie Screenshot” with “Count Down” applet, setting it to a delay long enough to unfold the options you want to show, even on the desktop:

Count Down > Run command: org.buddiesofbudgie.BudgieScreenshot -i
