Can't Boot Ubuntu Budgie 24.04 Without "nomodeset" and Can't Adjust Screen Brightness on Inspiron 14 2-in-1 (7430)

Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 Intel (7430) from Ubuntu Budgie 22.04 to 24.04, and since the update, I’ve encountered a couple of frustrating issues:

  1. I can’t boot without using the nomodeset option. If I try to boot normally, the system gets stuck, and I have to force a shutdown. Using nomodeset lets me boot, but it’s not an ideal solution.
  2. After the update, I also lost control over my screen brightness. The brightness keys no longer work, and adjusting brightness through system settings has no effect.

Has anyone else encountered this issue or found a solution? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

The problem may be the 6.8 kernel. With an upgrade you should stlll have the 6.5 kernal in the advanced grub menu. Boot with that.

Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the 6.5 kernel option in the Ubuntu advanced boot settings, i have 2 options available: the 6.8.44-generic and the 6.8.40-generic, but both of them have the same issue as I described on boot. At the moment, I’m trying to install the 6.5 kernel as you mentionned. I keep you up to date.
