Error message after last update

“ipp-usb.service is a disabled or a static unit not running, not starting it.”
I don’t understand the above message.
My guess was, to check local printer ?
Working well on print and I got an image of the exchange.
Can you help me ?
Thank You.

Hi @jeanmi2A!

You know what? I’ve never bothered with warnings like that, especially when it works. Linux is sometimes a little too talkative…

Hi jlb,

Linux warning " ipp-usb.service not running not starting it" was clear
after I could not mount an USB media of my home archives…Today.
The following command (found on a Ubuntu site)
“sudo snap install ipp-usb” solved this issue !

Hi jlb,
Sorry I’m back,
after another unsuccessful usb connexion on UB 24-04 Noble, using a flash stick that I could’nt open anymore !
I tested the physical connexion without and with this media on PC /drive D, the device name showed up at last.
Looks like a software issue, little more complicated than expected…
How to mount this flash device, without loosing the tracks, I need your help, jlb !
merci,
Jean-Michel

Salut Jean-Michel,

sorry but I haven’t understood your problem: in your first message you were talking about ipp-usb: I don’t know what ipp-usb is but the ipp part suggest something printing-related.
Now, in this last message, you talked about an usb stick you couldn’t open.

So, if is matter of opening a usb drive, maybe checking it via Gnome Disks should help (GUI apps are maybe less precise but often a lot more practical than doing the same via terminal: I’m a terminal user but not a fanatic one!); and maybe checking another usb drives and/or another usb ports could help too.

Cheers,
Sylviette

Salut puffettacicciottella,
Both You and jlb are right about the first question, however the last update was successful and the printer works on LAN. Following your recommendation,
I would like to familiarize with GUI tools rather than by terminal commands,
checked the USB drive using Gnome Disk utility and found out its status
“not mounted” . Partition type is FAT32.
How could I mount the above drive, using one GUI app ?
Cheers,
Jean-Michel

Bonjour Jean-Michel,

on Gnome Disks, just click on the arrow button under the partitions schema or via Nemo, right-click on the usb unit and choose “Mount”

Bonjour Sylviette,

Salut Jean-Michel !

With “gnome-disks”, you can also easily activate automatic partition mounting in graphic mode:

  • Click on the desired partition and then on the gear icon on the left.
  • Choose “Edit mount options”:

  • In the next window, deactivate “User Session Defaults”.
  • Save your changes by clicking on the “OK” button:

Hi jlb,
Thank you,
Familiarization is the word !
Bonne journée
