How can I switch workspaces?

The documentation I’ve found online indicates an “activities” window allowing me to switch workspaces should be available on clicking in the upper left (or hitting the super key), but all that does is show me a list of apps that I can run. At the left-most end of the icons on the upper right, there is a row of dots, one I suppose for each of the 4 workspaces I’ve enabled, but clicking on the dots of the corresponding drop-down menu doesn’t seem to do anything. And I haven’t found a keyboard shortcut to switch workspaces either. So it looks like I have to ask for help!

The keyboard shortcut to switch workspaces is
Ctrl + Alt + Left Arrow or Ctrl + Alt + Right Arrow

Also you can use Ctrl + Alt + Shift with the arrow keys to move the focused window to the left / right workspaces.

Also note you can use the mouse scroll wheel while hovering over the dots to switch workspaces as well.

Hi @Tim02130!

I guess you’re probably confusing this with the GNOME desktop documentation.

I advise you to explore the various sections of Budgie Welcome to familiarise yourself with all Budgie has to offer. There’s a lot to discover!

Budgie Welcome > Getting Started > Keyboard Shortcuts > Windows shortcuts - general

Given that Super-F1 opens the “Ubuntu Desktop Guide” which documents an “Activities” overview, I for one am not surprised I’m a bit confused at the onset (though I’ve been using various flavors of Unix / Linux almost daily now for close to 50 years).

The Budgie Welcome page on shortcuts says Ctrl-Alt-S should open the window shuffler, but nothing happens for me, and I don’t see an option for it in Settings —> Keyboard? (eventually found I had to enable it by running /usr/lib/budgie-window-shuffler/shuffler_control manually …).

Is there any way to enable hot corners on Budgie (besides the upper-left on for Apps)?

Looks like Budgie defaults to the Nemo file manger, which is supposed to support tree views (like Apple’s hierarchical views?), but I don’t immediately see how to do it (the column of small icons does not show folder contents on the right when an folder icon is selected).

It seems Super-Page-Up/Dn also switches to adjacent workspaces, and adding Shift to those moves the currently active window accordingly, which I find easier than Ctrl-Alt-Left/Right etc.

One thing I’d like to do is two swap the control and caps-lock keys; I believe gnome-tweaks allows this, but please let me know if that’s compatible with Budgie before I install it.

Lets try to have one topic rather than extending to unrelated stuff. That way it is more useful for others searching in the future.

Cheers.
