Please bear in mind this is probably me. By default the Icon sizes in Nemo are too small. Set at 50% I bump them up to 66%. But I have to do this for every single folder. There doesn’t seem to be any default setting to make all icons 66%.
Am I missing something?
OK. I’ve managed to solve this. It seems you cannot change the size of Icons across the board while the Icon theme is in use. So the workaround was to use dconf-editor / org / nemo / icon-view / default-zoom-level. Change the default value from small to standard, then apply. Then change the Icon theme to something else & change it back again. Bingo, all Icons across the board are now standard.
