22.04 latest. Did an apt update today and now it won’t boot into the desktop. The error is that light dm is trashed. Tried booting into recovery but can’t get the network started.
Suggestions?
What error do you receive on the boot?

note - hitting the blogs today was the announcement of kernel 6.2 being made available for jammy HWE users. Have you got that kernel now installed?
Maybe using grub - advanced options you can boot with an older kernel?
Alternatively - is this your issue? Failed to start Light Display Manager
I now get to the lightdm login screen. However, after entering pw i get error message can’t start session.
Edit: I reinstalled the budgie desktop and now successfully logged in.
Post Mortem:
On August 8 I ran Software Updater. It came back and said that there was a Partial upgrade. I closed Software Updater and did my standard thing, opened terminal and did an apt update and then an apt dist-upgrade. During the upgrade the Budgie Desktop was removed rendering the system useless after reboot.
Did you copy the full terminal output you saw when running the dist-upgrade?

Its probably because packages are currently being phased - not all of the linux 6.2 stuff is available to you - hence the partial upgrade message.
Forcing the install via a dist-upgrade is probably installing part parts of 6.2 but missing one of the packages that confuses apt and thus it resolves by removing all what it thinks are unneeded packages.
I’ve done a fresh install here that installed with kernel 5.9.
Then on install I did a update and dist-upgrade and I can see all is ok - so at least for me no packages are being phased.
Per the thread below, it was happening with apt upgrade as well. However, something changed last night and now things appear to be working well.
that will be the phasing issues that have now been resolved.
Until this is resolved, it is considered a blocker for the 22.04.3 release
