Ubuntu Budgie 22.04 wallpaper contest

So here it is - lets get the best of the best wallpapers for the next LTS - 22.04 Ubuntu Budgie - and your winning entry (or entries) will be admired for the next three years!

We need you to submit your best photos. Just reply and attach or web-link to your photos.

Winner of the contest will get $50 worth of merch from our store on Zazzle.

Rules - just two key rules:

If the wallpaper is NOT your own work we need the link to the original source together with the Authors name - the license for images that are not yours MUST be CC0 or CC-BY-SA 4.0
Our target resolution is 3840 x 2160 (4K) - so please don’t submit images that are less than the target - don’t worry if it is more though!

Due to the way discourse works, please drop a link to a picture held -for example- on a Dropbox account or similar. Discourse automatically reduces the picture resolution if you paste the image into a post.

Guidelines for desktop wallpaper images:

• If in doubt what images to submit - have a look at our 20.04 , 21.04 or 21.10 default wallpapers (packages budgie-wallpapers-focal, budgie-wallpapers-hirsute or budgie-wallpapers-impish)
• Images shouldn’t be too busy and filled with too many shapes and colors, a similar tone throughout is a good rule of thumb.
• A single point of focus, a single area that draws the eye into the image, can also help you avoid something too cluttered.
• Try your image at different aspect ratios to make sure something important isn’t cropped out on smaller/ larger screens at different resolutions.
• No brand names or trademarks of any kind.
• No branding assets like ubuntu-budgie or text in order to permit use by derivative distributions.
• No version numbers as some may prefer to continue to use your theme with an older version of Ubuntu.
• No illustrations some may consider inappropriate, offensive, hateful, tortuous, defamatory, slanderous or libellous.
• No sexually explicit or provocative images.
• No images of weapons or violence.
• No alcohol, tobacco, or drug use imagery.
• No designs which promotes bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against groups or individuals; or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
• No religious, political, or nationalist imagery.
• Use PNG & JPG formats

Licenses

• Submissions must adhere to the Creative Commons ShareAlike 4.0 to be considered for use in ubuntu-budgie
• Submissions must adhere to the Creative Commons With Attribution License v3 or v4 to be considered for use in ubuntu-budgie
• Submissions can use the Creative Commons Zero Waiver (CC0) - the original author if its not you must be specified.

These are all extremely nice images! I only wonder if there was some kind of compression applied to these images, they all show quite a bit of noise.

Hi @vlijm, thanks for the kind words. What you see is indeed filmgrain. All images were taken on 35mm film. Do you see a Problem with it? One could reduce this with Gimp or thelike, but I think it will reduce the fine structures in some of the images.

nice - old school - real photography!

Did you scan these in yourself? Just wondering if the scanner resolution is a little low.

No I didn’t. Has been done by a real great Filmlab. Resolution is 5444x3649. To be honest there is one better scanoption for the Fujiscanner, but it gets quite expensive. But you won’t (and don’t want to) get rid of grain, no matter how high the resolution is.

But it also depends a little bit on the image viewer you are using. The one on ubuntu sometimes takes a few moments to handle the grain and shows the image way too noisy but then it smoothens.

Ah, indeed nice - real photography! I tried setting a few on my 4k monitor. Noise is indeed a bit on the edge. Images are excellent though.

Will need to check and see if there is higher res copy. There might be often keep a full res and a lower one for posting for various things. Thanks for the response.

I think Discourse resized my picture automatically, I uploaded the picture on full resolution
