I’m happy to test. I enabled noble-proposed but am not seeing any new packages when running the update. What am I missing? (Pardon my ignorance - I’ve never done this before).
No worries!
Proposed packages don’t actually appear. You have to manually install them. This is a safety mechanism because people used to enable the proposed repo and did an upgrade and they got all the proposed packages installed. Not a great idea for stuff that hasn’t completed tesing.
So now you need to do this for 24.04 noble:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install budgie-session/noble-proposed
And you need to do this for 25.10 questing:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install budgie-session/questing-proposed
logout and then login.
Alrighty - I performed some testing and the issue does appear to be resolved.
I’m running:
- OS: Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
- Firefox Browser: mozilla-deb - 1.0 / 148.0.2 (64-bit)
Two primary test cases were consistently causing crashes (everytime):
- Scenario #1: Enable auto-scroll, click middle mouse button, and scroll down on media-rich “infinite scroll” sites (news sites, social networks, etc). Crash would happen consistently during scrolling.
- Scenario #2: Upload jpg files to photo printing web sites (e.g. CVS). Crash would happen consistently during media upload.
Crashes are no longer happening with either of these scenarios. I’ll continue to test but at this point, I’m cautiously optimistic that the issue is resolved.
Like @evc, I installed version 148.0.2 (.deb) of Firefox on UB 24.04.
I repeated the scrolling test with both autoscroll modes (smooth and fast). I can confirm that the session did not crash.
Not being American, I was unable to verify the upload to CVS, but I performed equivalent tests on image optimization sites with fairly large photos. Again, nothing happened.
I don’t dare say I’m sorry. ![]()
How do you revert to the “normal” version of budgie-session — if necessary?
Usually you need to look on launchpad what “pocket” the package is in
So you will see that the last version is in the release - universe pocket
So look at the version (in this case 0.9.1-1build2)
then
sudo apt install budgie-session=0.9.1-1build2
Alternatively this should work because its in the release pocket
sudo apt install budgie-session/noble
All - if you are content with the level of testing - please follow the instructions Canonical requested in the launchpad report - the TL;DR; at the minimum just add a comment saying what version of the package you installed and the results (copy paste the text you added here).
Many thanks.
Thanks, that worked!
I learnt something new again this morning! ![]()
I just did it a moment ago.
btw, I haven’t forgotten about this. For some reason, my ubuntu one credentials don’t work and reset isn’t working so I’ve had login issues. I see @fossfreedom posted my feedback on the forum so we’re good either way.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped with this issue. It’s so nice to have the scrolling feature back in my favorite browser ![]()
