In Budgie, you can’t open a new browser window, or another browser, on a different desks or work areas; trying to do so always returns you to the first desks or work areas.
How can this problem be fixed?
Hi @Walex!
If you launch the browser on workspace #1, switch to workspace #2, and open a new browser window, each window will appear on its own workspace.
This is, of course, also true for two instances of the same browser or two different browsers launched in two different workspaces.
Thanks for replying, but unfortunately it doesn’t work, because that’s precisely what caught my attention the first time: when I open a browser in space 1, and then open the same browser in space 2, it transports both browsers to space 1, even when they are different browsers (like Chrome and Firefox). So I don’t know why it won’t let me keep the browsers open in different spaces.
At least that’s what happens to me on Ubuntu Budgie 24.04.
Sorry, @Walex, I wasn’t precise enough in my explanation: launch browser in workspace #1, switch to workspace #2, right-click on the browser icon in the panel and select “New window”.
This way, each window is opened in its own workspace.
I just checked using Brave on Ubuntu 24.04.
Hello again, I followed your instructions carefully. Selecting “new window” in another browser works, however, when I do what you indicated, that is, selecting “new window” in the same browser, it takes me to workspace #1 without any changes… I think I’m missing something, because why does the instruction work with another browser?
Hi, thanks for replying.
I did what you suggested, and that solution works with Brave and Firefox, but not completely with Chrome. However, I should point out that this procedure only works if the windows are opened in each workspace using different Chrome profiles, because if only one profile is used, the problem persists.
Thanks!
Sorry, I don’t use profiles nor Chrome — but it works with Chrome too, I just tried it.
