XScreenSaver on Ubuntu budgie possible?

Hello all,

my names is Matt I’ve recently joined this community as I have switched over from Ubuntu Mate to Ubuntu Budgie.
I have been using Linux as my main OS for the last 13 years. Started out on KUbuntu.
The only thing that I’m missing is a decent screensaver on Ubuntu budgie.

Yes I’m not using a CRT so don’t really need one but I still like one.

Is there anyway easily to removing the gnome screensaver / budgie screensaver and replace it with Xsceensaver?
Without uninstalling other parts of the budgie desktop.

Thank you

Hi @cybermaxpower !

Just install Xscreensaver:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install xcreensaver

Then add it to startup applications (right-click on desktop > Desktop Settings > Autostart > Add command):

xscreensaver

Logout and reconnect.

You’ll find Xsreensaver settings in the main menu.

Thank you for your help and pointing in the right direction. I was overthinking it.

I did what you said.
I’ve found out the you need to add
-nosplash to the command on autostart.

Also I disabled the budgie screensaver from autostart.

Thanks :+1:t2:

With pleasure!
Enjoy before UB goes all Wayland!

Yes, or “-no-splash”.
You’re right: always check the options!

 <app name> -h / --help

Cool, even if this kind of screen saver doesn’t make sense any more.

“Deco” mode — my favorite:

Thank you for letting me know about XScreenSaver, @cybermaxpower!
