20.10 window animation changed

Greetings, I’ve upgraded from 20.04 to 20.10 ubuntu-budgie and all seems to be working fine. There is a minor annoyance the minimize/maximize window animation changed to a fade effect and I’m wondering if there is a setting somewhere that I can change back to the default effect in 20.04. If not it’s not that big of a deal but I was surprised it changed and am unable to find a way to switch it back. Thanks!

lol - you do have eagle eyes. Shame no one else noticed this until now!!

Its a GNOME 3.38 change. We’ll need to have a close look to see if this can be reverted.

If it can we’ll push as a post release fix.

lol guess I should have tested a few weeks back oh well. Thanks!

raised this to track https://github.com/solus-project/budgie-desktop/issues/2040

Please can you do some testing for me - I believe I have fixed this - but I want to be sure … and also if there are any inadvertent new crashes due to the fix.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntubudgie-dev/windowanimation
sudo apt upgrade

Reboot.

After testing you can & should downgrade

sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntubudgie-dev/windowanimation

Reboot

Man that was fast

and yeah this seems much closer to the original animation. Task switching with alt+tab seems better too as I don’t see my wallpaper popping in and out as it was before.

Ok - slightly tweaked this. Hopefully it is now the same as before.

I’ve delayed the animation speed by 30 microseconds - to me it improves the animation effect.

Please can you retest ?

FYI - this is being tracked via this launchpad bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/budgie-desktop/+bug/1900354 and can be tested using the instructions in that bug-report

@fossfreedom yes the latest ppa packages are even better now.

Fix is now in your regular updates. The PPA is no longer needed
