VBox{S}VGA has & continues to cause lots of graphical issues…
Best really to stick with VMSVGA and to ensure 3D host graphics is used.
Just a fyi, my problem was solved by turning off internet access diring the install. However there is a larger issue as mentioned in Bug # 2091382.
