The “Slick SDDM customize” tool allows you to adjust all sorts of settings for the Simple Desktop Display Manager login screen, but it’s simpler and more straightforward to edit the configuration file to fix those two small annoyances that non-English speakers might encounter and to customize the wallpaper.
Enter this command:
sudo gedit 2> /dev/null /usr/share/sddm/themes/ubuntu-budgie-login/theme.conf
- To translate the date into your language, modify the locale code on line 43 of the [LockScreen.Date] section.
- To remove the “Press any key” tiny message and its accompanying icon, set “display” to “false” on line 51 of the [LockScreen.Message] section — but you can also translate the message by entering your own text within the quotation marks on line 54, increase the font size, etc…
- Finally, to change the wallpaper, upload your own image to the “/usr/share/backgrounds” directory (using the alias “sn”, for example) and enter its name on line 23 of the [LockScreen] section.
Hope these few small tweaks will help you adapt to the changes introduced by the switch to Wayland and enjoy UB 26.04. ![]()
