Better handling of open wifi network authentication needed

Ubuntu Budgie 20.04.01 consistently fails to bring up the authentication page for my college’s wifi network. Other OSs like Mac OS, Windows, and Android don’t have problems with this.

I have found a workaround: Although URLs are blocked instead of redirecting, IP addresses such as 1.1.1.1 are forwarded to the login page.

It would be great if Ubuntu didn’t botch authenticating on these kinds of networks.

Its something I would dearly love to have in the distro. It’s an area though I cannot myself reproduce so would love someone who can, to produce a working solution.
