Budgie-panel leaks massive amounts of memory

I did not come to fully debug yet, but I still wanted to leave a not here.
On my machine, with ubuntu-budgie 23.10 the process ‘budgie-panel’ leaks massive amounts of memory (serveral 100MB/h) killing the system over time.

best debug this by removing all applets and retesting.

Then add applets one by one/groups of them until you find which one is the issue.

Ok! Is there a simple way to backup my current config that I did not see so far?

At least removing just single ones and not restarting the budgie-panel process does not free anything…

Hm, removing applets does not fix the issue, as far as I can tell.

Hm, the leak now disappeard “autonomously”. I am not quite sure what made it go away. The last package patched by apt was python-pil but I am not even sure if it is used? Nevertheless, the leak went away and the system is usable again.

Thats curious. So if you purge python-pil, logout and login does the issue come back again?

No, it does not seem so. The memory footprint keeps small now.

thx for the followup. stranger and stranger. must be another component that has been subsequently patched through regular updates.

I attached an extract from apt’s history.log for you. Between me noticing that the issue was gone and the apt-updates only these three apply.
