Budgie-wm spike up to 500%

I got

  • Processor AMD Ryzen 7 4800h with radeon graphics × 16
  • Graphics: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0, 256 bits)

Might the graphics driver be a reason? It should load a driver Radeon RX Vega 7

Yeah. llvmpipe is the software rendering fallback driver used when there isn’t an accelerated graphics driver detected.

So that’s the area that needs to be target here I.e. Why your setup isn’t loading the proper and drivers.

right, that’s particularly stupid as I installed Tuxedo_OS which should have everything coming with. Any idea how to remedy this?

I cant help with the Tuxedo OS since it’s not supported by Ubuntu. Please contact that vendor.

If using Ubuntu Budgie do try those two PPAs … they the mainline kernel ppa first.

Tuxedo_OS is based on Ubuntu Budgie… I’ll ask them anyway, I got their repos and it should download the proper packages, I hope

Looks like they only support 18.04 and 20.04

20.04 should do, no?

I dont know what tuxedos support arrangements are. But for us, we support 20.04 for 3 yrs.

It all depends on what you want. The latest and greatest, or long term stability assurance

for the record: I reinstalled amdgpu-dkms and run through the MOK management process, and it seems the driver is loaded now. :sun_with_face:

Congrats. So what you have installed is the amdpro graphics drivers - the proprietary drivers from amd.

If you are using 20.10 or later then it appears you may be out of luck with the tuxedo repo since it only has the 20.04 package.

Probably could be installable manually - but that really depends if AMD themselves have made the changes necessary to support the latest kernels
