Copying screen text problem

I have a problem that has become more and more annoying:

I am not sure how to call this feature in English, so let me explain:
When I try to select a word or a phrase, or even many phrases, with a mouse with the left button pressed, as we normally do to select something to copy or cut from the screen. Sometimes, very rarely, I am able to select what I want. Normally it is not possible. Even worse, sometimes even this process starts to make a mess in the text I am trying to highlight. It moves the words and mix it .
Is there a setting for this?
I have searched for it but unfortunatelly I am not able to find it.

I have a similar problem when I want to make a screenshot of a selected part of the screen. I try to capture it and suddenly it stops and takes a shot - when the selection process is not yet finished.

I think these two operations may have the same root problem.

I’ve noticed this problem too, but put it down to my new mouse and didn’t think much about it.

Try changing the sensitivity in “Budgie Control Centre > Mouse & Touchpad” by playing with “Mouse Speed” and/or “Acceleration profile”?

I can not see : Mouse Speed and Acceleration profile under “Budgie Control Centre > Mouse & Touchpad” ? :

In the “Mouse and Touchpad” section, not the “Applications” section!

I see now.
I have been clicking on Budgie Control Center but it was opening the application side of it .
I did not notice that I need to come back to Budgie Control Center as I thought I am already there .
Ok . You see . I experience even this kind of problems. I need to play more with the system to get more familiar with it.

So my update is :

I have changed Acceleration Profile for Adaptive and it is no problem to chose screen shot field of the screen any more .It does what suppose to do.Work very well here. I can see also the problem with highlighting a text disappeared . However I still experience an issue with moving a window. When I catch and hold a top of a window and moving it to the other place on the screen the window disappeared .
I will try to play more with Acceleration Profile .

Hey, that’s not squash!

It is much better now but it is not perfect .
I think about one more thing I could change in mouse settings which is a some kind of time of reaction.
I do not remember where I have seen these settings but I set it for 2sec . and I think this can be too short. That is why probably it is not yet function like it should .

Have you seen somewhere this kind of settings ?
I can not find it again .

I don’t know where you saw this numerical setting. I don’t suppose you’re familiar with ‘Dconf Editor’?

The best place to set the mouse speed and see what happens is in
“Budgie Control Centre > Mouse & Touchpad > Mouse > Mouse Speed”:

I am sure there was something about a mouse response kind of thing and I have chosen 2sec.
… but I do not remember really where it was . I will keep searching for it then.

No I do not know yet the Dconf Editor. After you have told about it I have search for it on youtube to get to know more and maybe this is what I should have .
Do you think there would be more mouse options available through this application ?

Are you referring to a program called “xinput”? If so, check the manual for more details:

yelp man:xinput

Or this answer (but you’ll need to lower the values in your case):

I do not think it was an external application . I remember it was in settings in Bugdgie somewhere.

I really don’t know what you’re referring to: Budgie Control Centre offers a graphical interface for the general public, in which you don’t enter numbers.

In dconf Editor, yes. But they’re more like milliseconds than seconds…

You can always install it and try:

sudo apt update && sudo apt install dconf-editor

You’ll find mouse settings in:

/org/gnome/desktop/a11y/keyboard/
/org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/mouse/

But take notes of what you do so you can restore the original settings! :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I have tried to install the deconf-editor by using the sudo command you suggested but maybe the app has been not installed for some reason .
I try to open it but nothing is opening ?
Should in terminal appear some information that deconf-editor is installed ? … bacause I can not read anything about it ?

By the way : is this command updates all aplication in the system ?
In terminal I see some of the apps has a problem to install :

You should have found “dconf-editor” in the “System tools” section of the main menu or by typing “dc” in its application search box.

I had installed Tor to answer your previous question about this browser, but I’ve since uninstalled it.
Apparently, the sudo apt update command that updates the package list returned errors.
Maybe that’s why “dconf-editor” wasn’t installed: the conjunction “&&” only executes the second command if the first ends without error.

I thought it would be easier to give both commands in a single line, but no. You learn every day. :confounded:

Try again with :

sudo apt update
sudo apt install dconf-editor

It is not in “System Tools” but I can see it in application search box .
However it is not op-enable . In other words I can not open it .

I wonder what I should do now if something clearly is downloaded in the system .
Should I first uninstall it before I proceed with a new download according to your new command installation ?

Out of curiosity, what do you see when you run

dconf-editor

from the terminal?

Command ‘dconf-editor’ not found, but can be installed with:
sudo apt install dconf-editor

The message explains what to do.
I’ll update the package list first, just in case:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install dconf-editor

I have used the commands you suggested and it works now  .
Thank you for your help with installation of this app .
What I have seen on some youtube videos about this app and how it works it can be really helpful in adjusting the system to our personal needs .

Now I need to learn how to use dconf-editor and maybe find the mouse settings which are responsible for copy a screen malfunctions I still experience .

A bit of reading before going any further?
