Firefox laggy in a clean ubuntu budgie 19.10 minimal installation

Well, I came from Pop_OS! 19.10 to test ubuntu budgie. I am liking it so far, but firefox is running very slow. Chrome is running fine, but firefox is very laggy and I don’t know why.

As I did the minimal installation, can my firefox miss some important package? In official site I read this:

  • Firefox will not run at all without the following libraries or packages:
    • GTK+ 3.4 or higher
    • GLib 2.22 or higher
    • Pango 1.22 or higher
    • X.Org 1.0 or higher (1.7 or higher is recommended)
    • libstdc++ 4.6.1 or higher
  • For optimal functionality, we recommend the following libraries or packages:
    • NetworkManager 0.7 or higher
    • DBus 1.0 or higher
    • GNOME 2.16 or higher
    • PulseAudio

I know that I have the most of them installed, but is some package missing in minimal installation?

(Firefox was running smooth at pop)

Before you delve into dependencies - if you just boot into the ISO live session does firefox work ok?

It was laggy too.
But no problem, I fixed it! Just needed to install some extra hardware accelaration drivers and now firefox is fast again. Those extra drivers also fixed my mpv player, which was very laggy.

Maybe ubuntu should include those drivers too?

Did you install nvidia drivers?

They will have been automatically installed if you used the wifi and restricted drivers option as part of the installer.

What I did was

sudo apt-get install libvdpau-va-gl1

and

sudo apt-get install i965-va-driver

that is it!

it solved mpv problems too as I said. Vlc was playing fine, but mpv was laggy

Interesting. Thanks for that. We will consider adding that as a default install for 20.04.

Cheers.

Can I add it as a push request in ubuntu budgie git?

Seeds are managed on launchpad.

Many thanks for your kind offer. We will deal with it after further discussion.
