How do I upgrade 24.10 to 25.04

One day after release I got a prompt by the software updater that 25.04 was available for upgrade.

I ignored it for that moment, and instead prepared my backups in case any such upgrade went bad.

1 day later the software updater says my software is upto date already:

Apparently the update was withdrawn because of Kubuntu problems. But nothing saying so on the release notes page.

Now I’ve just returned home after two weeks away, and the software updater had a slew of other updates, one of which hanged “Building initial module or some such…”

I killed the update, rebooted, and restarted the software updater. It completed a 2nd time.

I followed the instructions here:

In particular: sudo apt install ubuntu-budgie-desktop
Apparently I’m uptodate, even though I’m not according to my about details below.

So I’m not an experienced linux user, even though I’m learning fast. Evidently not fast enough.

So. How do I upgrade to 25.04? Simple step by step procedures would suffice.

I’ve spent 5 hours backing up. I don’t particularly fancy resuming work, only to have to spend 5 more hours backing up again when the update finally drops (rsyncing my home directory, and rescuezillaing my entire drive, and then copying all that to an external drive).

The 25.04 upgrade has been halted until various issues have been resolved.

Please be patient until Canonical sorts this out.
