If you don’t need a keyboard other than French, the easiest way is to remove the English keyboard. to do this, open Budgie control center / keyboard and remove the unwanted keyboard.

First , for the next time, it is necessary for you to write in english!

you say that at startup the “original” keyboard (selected at installation?) recovers.
Then you change the keyboard for another one.
For this you must have 2 keyboards listed in the “budgie Control center” section keyboard. here you can delete the unwanted keyboard entry.

System language is set to French

but

keyboard mapping is not set accordingly.

You also have to check all [Fr] language packs are installed, it might help.

Why do I have to write in English?

No, I only have one listed.

Pourquoi dois je écrire en anglais??

Non je n’en ai bien qu’un de listé.

All language packs are installed.

I don’t have the same interface and can’t find where to check this parameter.

as-tu essayé d’éditer /etc/locale/keyboard?
Parmi le reste (s’il y-en a), vérifie qu’il y ait la ligne

XKBLAYOUT=“fr”

have you tried to edit /etc/default/keyboard?
Between other settings, check if there’s

XKBLAYOUT=“fr”

or via dconf-editor or dconf from terminal (/org/gnome/desktop/input-sources)

Salut/cheers,
Sil

because this is an english language forum. it’s a question of courtesy and then it will be easier for you to get help… imagine si sur un forum français quelq’un arrivait en écrivant en , par exemple espagnol!

holala tu me parle chinois là!! ^^

You’re talking Chinese to me!
No, I didn’t try, I don’t know how.
But I’m willing to try if you have time to explain how.

Yes seen as that I understand!! sorry for the inconvenience!!

actually I have to install another keyboard (French (variant, Latin-9 only)). and then I delete it. by doing so the French keyboard (azerty) is again the one that is active for the whole system and applications.

Hey … that’s not chinese, this is chinese 你好  (it’s just a bad french, since french is not my firs language
Default keyboard is managed by /etc/locale/keyboard, a system file that you can edit (as sudo) with vi, nano or visual text editor, gedit (sudo vi /etc/locale/keyboard or sudo nano /etc/locale/keyboard or, easier, sudo gedit /etc/locale/keyboard).

Tchao/cheers,
Sil

Out of topic : It was not Chinese at all but in a very good French don’t worry, congrat’s !

For language and keyboard settings, there are 3 steps.

First step is to open « Prise en charge des Langues » which you will find in your applications menu. It’s not « Paramètres / Settings / Budgie Control Center ».

There you add your desired language(s), and you apply to whole system.
This will provide languages and keyboard mappings for all other applications.
Maybe « Système de saisie au clavier » should be IBUS by default instead of « Aucun / none » ?

Then a second step is to open Budgie Control Center, and check in « Pays et Langues » if « Langue » and « Formats » are set accordingly. For your personal account AND the login screen.
It’s often here that the settings are not copied from what you chose during installation or through « Prise en charge des langues ».

And third final step is still in Budgie Control center to go to « Clavier » and here set your desired keyboard mapping ( agencement ), Français ( Variante ) or Français ( afnor ) or anything else that fits for you.

Yes, setting languages and keyboard mappings is a mess for non-english users in most Linux distributions.

And yes some bugs are not fixed in 22.10 near its end of life : double mouse cursor issue in screenshot ( look at top left of the pictures ) + size of workspace switcher applet.

Because that forum is not french, simple as that.

You may find some french speaking help here : Budgie / Forum Ubuntu-fr.org

good evening to all.
Melomane63 found the solution to my problem.
Here’s how it’s done. in the menu open ibus preferences, in the input method tab, there are at least two entries, one in French and one in English. delete the one in English.

again thanks to all those who took their time to try to solve my problem.

beautiful evening to all.
