The Ubuntu Budgie team meets once a month to discuss recent updates and what’s coming next for Ubuntu Budgie. Meeting notes from Ubuntu Budgie team meeting of 19 October 2025, 16:30 UTC.

Updates from upstream

  • Gnome 49 updates issues with Budgie. Gnome settings daemon was forked to restore functionality.

  • Budgie 10.9.3 released to deal with the Gnome 49 settings

  • VLC to replace the default video player? Check how it works and looks on 25.10 with the PPA.

Wayland and display manager

  • Wayland display manager issues: Session Manager issues were sorted out after the release of 25.10.
  • Display manager is being worked by BoB upstream.
  • Crystal dock RC6 will be uploaded to Debian so there can be a dock for Wayland before 26.04.
  • Changes might be needed on the Ubuntu Installer for automatic login.
  • QEMU seem to be working fine for testing

Testing tasks

  • Write a discourse post as soon as the components are ready, with guides on how to test on hardware or VMs
  • Create a budgie welcome “are you feeling brave” mode where all the testing and backports ppas are automaticaly enabled.
  • Testing stream with the ubuntu hideout

  • Domain DNS renewal for 1 year

Website

  • blog posts converted to markdown and moved to the new website
  • Transition around end of the year
  • New merch store to be added to new website
