Annoying random logouts

I’m on Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 - just installed a week ago. Occasionally, the screen flickers and I get logged out (back to lightdm-slick-greeter). Here’s the output of uname -a:

Please help - I love Ubuntu Budgie, but this is killing me. I did install the budgie extras ppa, but this issue occurred before I did that, so i dont think it’s related.
Thanks!

Question: does it occur on the occasion of switching workspaces?

I don’t use workspaces, so I don’t know.

Also sometimes, after it crashes, it resets budgie-panel. Not always, though

That points into the direction of a misbehaving applet. What applets are you running?

Also, whenever I open Budgie Desktop Settings, it resets my GTK theme and cursors to the default Budgie ones - I have no idea why

Well, the resetting problem was solved by a reboot, but my other problem still remains. I ran into this problem when I didn’t have the following applets, too:

  • Haste
  • Screenshot Applet
  • Network applet (I used the system tray one)

So it has to be one of the others, I guess?

Unlikely, none of your applets is suspected or perform error-sensitive tasksvas far as I can see.

Please reset your panel and run the desktop for a while without any applet or panel customisation. We need to determine if it is an applet or something else causing issues.

nohup budgie-panel --reset --replace &

Then logout and login.

Been using it like that for a hour with no issues so far.
Also, this information be of interest to you: when I try to login as a guest user from slick greeter, I see the default UB desktop for a second, then the same flickering issue occurs - only it’s reproducible and happens before I get a chance to use the desktop.
Thanks for making this awesome OS!

You must have enabled guest user since it should be disabled by default.

Yeah guest user is broken. It has been for many years now ever since ubuntu moved to systemd

Strange then. Ah well… I wanted to use Guest User sometimes, but okay.
