How do I install Folder Color for Nemo

Hi,

FYI, Folder Color doesn’t work with the new Nemo 4: https://bugs.launchpad.net/folder-color/+bug/1826627

I’ll review it.

Best regards.

Fixed #1826627

It doesn’t work for me (disco 19.04). I’ve added the PPA (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:costales/folder-color), installed the Nemo package sudo apt install folder-color-nemo and rebooted with no luck. I’ve also tried all the possible workarounds described here https://foldercolor.tuxfamily.org/

Tried with both Pocillo and Papirus icons.

Hi, @sandrito which nemo version are you using? Best regards

Hi @costales. 4.0.6 from UB official backports. https://launchpad.net/~ubuntubudgie/+archive/ubuntu/backports

Which is the exactly issue? does the menu appears? bad icon?
Could you paste the exit of:
nemo -q
nemo

Thanks

nemo -q does not output anything. Empty. No errors or warnings.

The issue is that even after rebooting I don’t see the Folder Color submenu on right clicking. Nothing at all with both Pocillo/Papirus icons.

I’m on QogirBudgie-dark GTK+ Theme.

And the dump of second command? Please run both commands. Thanks

peril@peril:~$ nemo

** (nemo:2048): WARNING **: 18:50:51.113: Current gtk theme is not known to have nemo support (QogirBudgie-dark) - checking…
ImportError: could not import gobject (error was: ‘No module named gi._gobject’)

(nemo:2048): Nemo-Python-WARNING **: 18:50:51.510: nemo_python_init_python failed

Ok solved. sudo apt install python-gi did the trick. I thought python3-gi was enough.

It should be considered a dependency…

Thanks for your time @costales

Great!

python-gi should not be a dependency. That is python2 stuff. That is a bug in Nemo-color… it should not need any python2 stuff to run.

Yes it should be solved soon. AFAIK Python2 stuff won’t even be in 19.10 repos?

Anyway I’ve got it working now! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hi,
Folder Color extension only checks main dependences, as python-nemo

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~costales/folder-color/trunk/view/head:/debian/control

This issue should be fixed in Nemo, adding it as dependence. Anyway, Nemo 4 was migrated to python 3, then I would say python3-gi should be used, and not python-gi…

A hug and thank you for your feedback and tests!

And so, folder color for nemo isn’t yet in repo ?

What’s the best way to install it in 19.10 then ?

The ppa is in the first post

Ah.

It’s a default feature in 18.04, thought it would have since been ported to official repo rather than relying on an external ppa.

Things only get uploaded to the official repo if someone undertakes the work to do that. In this case, no one has taken that challenge

And going back to Nautilus implies no-icons-on-desktop, that’s it ?

Wasn’t there an applet to manage icons on desktop ?

Why is it, quoting, a « challenge » ?
